Profile
I am a freelance visual artist and producer based in Bradford, specialising in painting, textiles, print and collage. I studied at Bradford School of Art (BA Visual Arts 2017) and have an MA in Creative Practice (Leeds Arts Uni 2019). I facilitate workshops and artist critiques.
I also have a degree in Philosophy (Uni of York 1986) and am a creative writer of stories and observations. My former career in the voluntary and public sector, provided services and therapeutic support for vulnerable people, particularly those fleeing persecution.
I am a founding member of Trapezium Arts, an artist collective that runs Trapezium Gallery in Bradford. Since 2018, we have produced over fifty exhibitions by local artists and groups. I am involved in all aspects of managing the Gallery from administration and promotion to supporting and guiding the artists and curating their work.
Creative Practice
My subjects of interest are:
- Philosophy of media, information and communication (Medium Theory) and the politics of power.
- Theories of the body and the perceptual relationship between mind, brain and corporeality.
- Gender studies, particularly in relation to women’s experience of age, work and domestic violence.
- Art as a therapeutic tool for reducing isolation and promoting well-being.
- A commitment to temporary space projects and working collaboratively and sustainably.
